This painting is called, ‘Inviting Waters’ and is painted in oil on solid Oak block. It was inspired by the colours of the water you find in Cornish harbours and how inviting they look!

On a harbour walk with my family, I drew sketches of the boats, rope lines, buoys and water trails made by the boats and then back in my garden studio I added to these marks, adding layers of oil paint in an intuitive way, evoking the feeling of calm and being at peace.

I add glazes, pigments and mix the oil paint in with cold wax medium to create my art, and use shells and bits of old rope found on the tideline to make marks and texture which I find helps connects me to the landscape whilst I’m painting.

This painting is designed to sit on a shelf or mantlepiece offering a burst of colour and interest to your home and a reminder of your time spent in Cornwall.

The solid Oak blocks I use are hand prepared and have a lovely lustre and tactile surface quality to them and have details in them that you notice on closer inspection.
