Dawn Chorus is painted in oil on solid Oak block and was inspired by the colours of the light just before the dawn and the layers of bird song at this liminal time. The golden yellows really stand out and offer a reminder of a joyful morning walk.

I add glazes, pigments and mix the oil paint in with cold wax medium to create my art, and used feathers, shells and a quill to make marks and texture.

The solid Oak blocks I use are hand prepared and have a lovely lustre and tactile surface quality to them and have details in them that you notice on closer inspection.
