This painting is called, ‘Waiting for the Tide’ and is painted in oil on a cradled Birch wood panel. It was made by building up complex layers after layers of paint and then removing parts using various tools to create texture. I love to excavate the layers to reveal the hidden colours beneath, which always bring me joy as if I’m remembering a happy memory.

It is a unique original painting, part of a series of paintings I called ‘Safe Harbour’ as I was exploring the feeling of being seen and showing my art to the world. The collection was inspired by the colours of the water you find in Cornish harbours, and I drew sketches of boats, ropelines, buoys and water trails made by the boats on location in St Ives and then back in my garden studio I began to make marks and added layers of paint in an intuitive way, evoking the feeling of calm and being at peace.

I used glazes, pours and mixed the oil paint in with cold wax medium to create this piece of art, I still get great joy out of the process and moments of wonderment!

The wood panels I use are hand prepared with 2 coats of GAC100 and 3 layers of Gesso and finished with a final layer of cold wax medium. They all have a lovely lustre and tactile surface quality to them and have details in them that you notice on closer inspection.

This painting is professionally framed in a white painted hardwood tray frame & includes d-rings and cord.
