'Inchoation' Oil and Cornish Earth Pigments
'Inchoation' Oil and Cornish Earth Pigments
‘Inchoation’ is a 30 by 40cm oil painting on board and is one in my most recent series where I’ve been abstracting the shapes I drew whilst wave watching close to where I live. Watching the waves is a meditative experience for me, its where I can be fully present, noticing my thoughts and feel lighter. Back in my garden studio I hand-ground found Cornish yellow ochre pigment and added it to the oil paint, intuitively applying and removing the many layers over many weeks.
I hope to convey the contented feeling of being on the shore, noticing the marks and subtle tones in the painting reminding them of their time on Cornwall’s beaches, looking at the wet pebbles, lichens and rockpools, and looking out to sea spotting the start of a wave.
