'No Notion of Time as Anything but the Comings and Goings of the Tide' Oil and Cornish Earth Pigments on Wood Panel
'No Notion of Time as Anything but the Comings and Goings of the Tide' Oil and Cornish Earth Pigments on Wood Panel
This 30 by 40cm oil painting on a deep edge wood panel is one in my most recent series where I’ve been abstracting the shapes I drew whilst wave watching close to where I live. Watching the waves is a meditative experience for me, its where I can be fully present, noticing my thoughts and feel lighter. Back in my garden studio I mixed my own blues and added Cornish yellow ochre pigment to the oil paint to help me feel grounded and then intuitively applied and removed many layers of the paint over many weeks. I hope to convey the contented feeling of being on the shore, where the viewer notices the marks and subtle tones in the painting reminding them of their time in Cornwall.
