This painting is called, ‘Porthmeor Beach’ and is painted on Arches oil paper which is archival quality. It was directly inspired by the 8 line print of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and the colours and shapes of the rocks at Porthmeor Beach, St Ives.

There I drew sketches of my breath as I watched the waves and then back in my garden studio I added to these marks, adding layers of oil paint in an intuitive way, evoking the feeling of calm and being at peace.

I added glazes, pigments and mix the oil paint in with cold wax medium using shells, pebbles and bits of old rope found on the tideline to make marks and texture which I find helps connects me to the landscape whilst I’m painting.
