'Diving for Pearls' Oil and Cornish Earth Pigments on Board
'Diving for Pearls' Oil and Cornish Earth Pigments on Board
This 40 by 60cm oil painting is from the ‘Between two waves’ series, using lines from TS Eliot’s poem Little Gidding as a starting point.
‘Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.’
I intuitively added layers of oil paint over several weeks, the vertical shapes that are in this series are perhaps veils or doorways/entrances, definitely at a threshold point. They hold a dream-like quality, inviting the viewer to spend time with them and enjoy the present moment. I love the symbolism associated with the ocean and how much it is revered with its ancient wisdom.
