This 30 by 30cm oil painting on Birch wood is from the ‘Between two waves’ series, using lines from TS Eliot’s poem Little Gidding as a starting point.
‘Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.’
I intuitively added layers of oil paint over several weeks, allowing the marks to inform the next, vertical shapes allude to veils or edges of a doorway, a threshold space creating an ethereal quality. Pieces of crushed yellow ochre, which I collected from a nearby cliff can still be spotted on closer inspection. The pops of bright aqua and whites give a fresh feel to the piece, and would brighten a corner in your home.
